New Eklutna Tribe Casino Project Takes Shape Near Anchorage

In a significant development, the Native Village of Eklutna is preparing the groundwork for a groundbreaking gaming facility, marking a historic first outside of Southeast Alaska. This prospective 50,000-square-foot gaming hall is poised to reshape local entertainment and economic landscapes, contingent upon securing the necessary federal green light.

Project genesis and approvals:

The initiative, spearheaded by the Native Village of Eklutna, revolves around an 8-acre site in Birchwood, roughly 20 miles northeast of Anchorage. This land, long-held by a tribal family, might soon transform following an encouraging nod from the National Indian Gaming Commission this summer (pdf). This approval reverses pre…

All new MacBooks now come with a baseline 16GB of RAM, a year after Apple brazenly claimed 8GB of RAM on a Mac was ‘analogous to 16GB’ on PCs

Well well well. Well well well well well. Look who’s decided to leave behind the 2010s and make computers with a reasonable amount of memory for modern-day tasks. Apple’s been on a tear of announcing new Mac hardware this week, including a new teensy Mac Mini, but the biggest news, to me, is that the company renowned for selling very expensive laptops is now putting more than 8GB of RAM in them across-the-board. No more paying an extortionate $200 to upgrade to a reasonable 16GB!

Despite making generally fantastic laptops, there’s almost always something Apple will charge an eye-watering upgrade fee for, and for years that’s been an adequate amount of RAM. This criticism has been around for years, but it wasn’t until late 2023 that someone got an Apple VP, Bob …

2022’s best detective game is getting a new case this month-

Every morning I go through my email and find various announcements from game developers, publishers, and PR firms. There’s always lots of news about expansions, season passes, release dates, events, game updates, and betas, and they’re almost always perfectly straightforward: a few paragraphs of text and a link to a trailer, a Steam page, a website, or a presskit.

Almost always. Today I received a rather unusual email, not from a game’s PR but from a game’s character, and it hints at a mystery we’ll get to unravel later this month:

Dear associate,

The Seven Seas Company has reviewed and approved your request to partake in the upcoming Lanka trading expedition. You and two other associates will personally accompany yours truly on this mission.

New SteamOS makes Steam Deck a better machine with bug fixes, microSD improvements, and even ‘improved battery life by up to 10%’ in some situations

The Steam Deck has been one of the best handheld gaming PCs basically ever since it launched yet finding a rogue software problem isn’t unheard of. Valve has put out a new OS update that may just make the whole handheld a little better and squash a whole heap of bugs.

SteamOS 3.6.19 has just launched and Valve put out notes on what it has changed. As well as fixing a whole host of issues like “the frame limiter not properly applying in certain situations” or “a rare issue where sound output could be corrupted on certain boots”, it also improves general stability and comes with quality-of-life fixes.

Interestingly, this update is said to improve the speed of future OS updates and even improves the “reliability of certain microSD card usage scenarios”. This includes finding …
